Big Cat Under Pressure
Tigers are found throughout the country except in the north-western region but mostly they initiate to Asia. They vary in sizes and some of the subspecies are even tallest than lions.
They have many subspecies and require huge areas of forest to survive.
Few subspecies from various parts of region are (viz. Bengal Tiger, Malayan Tiger, Sumatran Tiger, Balinese Tiger, Caspian Tiger, Siberian Tiger etc.)
Masses of these subspecies have been continually declining and some have got endangered.
Tigers are facing many threats:-
- As their forests homes are diminishing and disappearing slowly.
- They’re been hunted and killed for their meat, skins and bones which are used in traditional Asian medicines.
- Mighty cats are even been poached for pelts which are valuable in black market.
- Even rising sea levels and natural water getting more saline, is forcing tigers to move to the areas populated by humans.
Over 95 percent of the world’s tiger population has vanished since the turn of the 20th century.
2500 Nos. was the tiger count in India in 2016.
In India, it has been chosen as the National Animal due to its grace, strength, agility and power.
We need to do our best to save and preserve the big cat- otherwise soon it will be listed in the range of Endangered Species.
