Even the Chinese do not buy Chinese Phones

As “boycott Chinese products” been a hot potato in India, the Chinese are having their apple every day keeping Chinese products away.
Confused? Let me take the lid off.

According to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), a state-administered agency that monitors the country’s Internet affairs, there were 78 crore (780 million) smartphones in use in China. Out of that Apple’s iPhone enjoyed the 16.8 percent market share.

That makes China the largest iPhone market in the world!
If this failed to raise your eyebrows, the report further revealed that Samsung stood second to Apple and made a killing with 15.8% of the market share.

Take a look at the report in chart format below:-

A basic wisdom is needed to understand that those who could afford a costly device have gone for the foreign brands there. Most people would have bought local made mobile phones only because of the price.

Why Chinese Do Not Prefer Chinese Phones.

Poor Quality:-

One of the biggest reasons for the same is that Chinese phone makers may give the best configuration at the cheapest possible price but they lack quality & service.

Most Chinese phones are poor in durability and are embed with many apps.

Security Issue:-

One of the another concern with the Chinese phones (and any electronic product in general) is the privacy issue.

According to a 2014 blog post by F-Secure, a Finnish security firm, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi secretly steals user data. The blog can be read here . Although Xiaomi came out against it strongly but a report in IBTimes  reveal that “Reacting to the blog and subsequent media reports, Xiaomi apologized for any confusion and has decided to change its policy of automatically uploading certain user information, making it an opt-in choice.”
The Internet is flooded with reports of privacy and security concerns with Chinese products. According to a White House report of 2012, a Chinese company which also make smartphones is “potentially dangerous”. Even in India, the security department of the DoT or Department of Telecom, raised concerns about Chinese equipment vendors.

Adware and Hacking issues:-

Even the locals do not seem to trust Chinese online security ecosystem. Recently Trend Micro, a global security software company,  discovered how a 3rd party Chinese app store has infected 75 million iOS users!  In their Security Intelligence blog, TrendLabs has explained how the repackaged apps serve adware.

This must be a definite growing concern among the users,

So we see that even the aam aadmi (or aurat for that matter) of the largest phone making country do not trust their own products. Over 1/3rd of all the phones sold in China itself are of foreign brands.
